"...We believed if we put our trust in the Lord, he would stand by us. This was a trial that I never had to pass through before. I was confident that the great head of the church would support us. My dear Lord was with us." Excerpt from The Life, Experience, and Gospel Labors of the Rt. Rev. Richard Allen, The Rt. Rev. Richard Allen, 1833, Philadelphia, Martin Boden Printers.

Dear Beloved: I greet you in the Matchless Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Nearly 200 years ago, Bishop Richard Allen took a bold stand for righteousness and justice. In it, he proclaimed and affirmed his calling through Christ Jesus to carry out a mission to lead a marginalized people to social, political, and economic victory. Bishop Allen boldly affirmed his Lord's call with resounding obedience. His followers and believers boldly cheered in their spirit, "and, through God's Grace, we can."
My brothers and sisters, we've "come a long way, a mighty long way" -- but there remains much work to be done to carry on this strong 1816 Legacy for a 21st Century Church: Spiritual Transcendence, Community Empowerment, Pastoral Excellence, Phenomenal Growth, Economic Vitality, Expansive Technology, Equality for Women In Ministry, Global Diversity Awareness, Social and Political Action. As a candidate for 2016 Bishop of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, I am deeply and profoundly thankful to God for His blessing of visionary leadership and commitment to the call.
Would you join with me on this historical legacy journey as we together continue the mighty work of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ through his servant Bishop Richard Allen: He did. They Could. And, "Through God's Grace, We Can."
Because of Him, I Am, The Reverend Dr. Harry L. Seawright
